If you're born between 20th July (approx.) and 20th August (approx.), you're a Leo. That is, your Sun sign is Leo.
Leo is the second of the fire triplicity, but is the fifth sign of the Zodiac. It is hot and dry by nature, masculine, positive and fixed.
Leo is choleric and feral by temperament.
Leo is ruled by the Sun and is no exaltation.
Leo is connected with the heart.
The symbol for Leo is the lion, a magnificent beast, the 'king of the jungle'. Also, the sign is ruled by the Sun, the light giver of the Solar System and it is connected with the heart. All these point to a Leo's need to be the centre of attention, the central focus. Perhaps these factors lend themselves to the idea that Leos are regal, or royal, but then that depends on your interpretation of regal.
The point is that Leo is a bestial sign and a feral one - an untamed one, wild and animal-like. If you're a Leo you can have a rage and temper when you do not get what you want. Then, being fixed you are unlikely to change your mind easily. You simply must get your way.
Not only this, whilst Leos are considered to be 'royal', which means, one would imagine, to have decorum and social niceties, an untamed (and often tamed) Leo is a wild one in terms of the sex. This is no doubt linked to the need to be loved, to be acknowledged, to being made to feel that you are right, and wanted. And then, when you get what you want, you'll want more - not from the same person but from others.
Yes, I know this could well fly in the face of the general ideas about Leos, but it must be heard, because they are common in you (if you're a Leo) and must be acknowledged, so that a more positive approach may be adopted.
Of course, there are many of you out there who already have a positive approach to life. Let's now take a look at you and those positive traits.
Unless there are some serious discrepancies in your natal chart, one thing that is certain is that a Leo will stand out. You will often have some sort of spotlight on you, something that helps make you be seen. No, you do not need to try hard to do this, it should happen naturally. After all, does the Sun try hard to be seen? No, he just does what he does. And if you do what you're meant to do, then so you will shine.
The ruler of Leo is the Sun, which is the natural significator of the father, and so Leos generally have a strong connection with father. Your father will have been either a very difficult man or a very good one. No matter, your connection with him is very strong indeed. But the point is that your father must shine naturally bright. Which means that you more than most signs must honour your father, no matter what his faults are or were. That is, you must get to understand how and why he lived as he did; and if he was bad, then to understand what pain he had at the centre of his life, and then to find genuine compassion, which, I think, is the very centre of the Leo. (If you have no traceable father, then look to your father figure and look also as best as you can at your missing father, and why he was missing).
Yes, I know there's a lot of talk about Leos having big egos. But that that is simply because you are related closely to the fifth house of self-expression, fun, creativity (YOUR creativity), sex. That is, all forms of SELF-expression. Also, the Sun, your ruler, is The Self. That is, your true destiny - all of our true destinies. But it is still the self, and so, when negatively expressed, becomes egotistical, which leads to conflict and isolation. This can be strongly emphasised, considering you are a feral and bestial sign of choleric temperment. However, if you can work on the True Self, which is the highest level of spirituality, you will access that which joins us all. It is that Overall Love, which is called in Christianity, Love, or in Islam, Knowledge, or Gnosticism, Knowledge or Gnosis, and so on. With this, of course comes great compassion.
But it is not that suffocating, dreary, sentimental, religious smothering that so many people confuse with compassion; it is instead a bright powerful light, which emanates through no effort of yours in a way that brings life to all. It literally inspires all - in-spires - inserts spirit, Life. That's how your true centre of attention should emerge. Not through force of your own will, but by allowing your will set itself aside and so replace itself with what you might call 'The Light Of God'. It is with this that you will encourage others to be as they should be or as they truly are, just like the Sun helps the Solar System to have form, so will you help give form to people's potential.
Incidentally, I must stress that to shine that 'Light Of God' does not by a long shot necessarily mean being religious, or even necessarily aware of 'God'. It is just you being you and fulfilling your individual true potential, which means really being what makes you feel alive, which could mean anything from being a mother, a train driver, a soldier, a writer, a teacher - anything as long as it really is you and you love it.
But I must also stress here that the 'Light' is something that you must not own as yours. It will just come when you get on with your life. And it will come especially when you are aware of that beast side of your nature. That is not to destroy the beast, but to be the beast, to accept therefore your dark side, and to welcome its power, thus refining its raw life force into what is truly positive and acceptable. This, of course, will take any of the negativity from its power, and so it can only be expressed as good.
So, yes, the egotistical ones of you really do have a big ego, and can be quite difficult. But that ego is what must be transformed, and when transformed... well, yes, very well. In fact, in a way, we would say that the bigger the ego, the luckier you are, because that means you have more raw material to refine into what will serve you better.
It's also worth mentioning here, by the way, that when you are being you, that does also mean enjoying being the hero or the heroine. Enjoying the limelight and enjoying acknowledgement is all part of you - so enjoy it!
Whoever you are, whatever you have done, there are few Leos who are outright horrid. Most of you have a genuine warmth about you, a sparkle in your eyes, a love for life and Life. You cannot hide all that light with your ego no matter how big it may be. Also, because of your natural affinity with the Sun, you have a natural understanding of the correct order of things. That is, just as the masculine Sun holds together the Solar System, and just as it is through the Sun's generous and selfless light and warmth that life happens, so you understand the vital importance of the masculine overseeing and giving clarity to all. Thus, you recognise the importance of the male, and the true male role as head of the family, and the true male expression in life in general.
Hence, if you're a Leo woman, like Halle Berry is, you'll be spirited, a woman who takes no nonsense, and will therefore generally need a fine strong man as your lover or husband.
If you're a Leo man, like Mick Jagger is, you'll generally like your woman to be very feminine, but she'll have to be a bit of a tigress - that is, not a push over.
Also, since you're a fixed sign, and since you generally believe in the true order of things, once you have committed, or married, you will generally be very loyal - especially if you've trained that beast of yours.
You so understand the vital importance of being spirited, or living life to the full - hence your 5th House connections. That is not necessarily to go to excess with food or drink or drugs, because over-indulgence in these areas it is not really a Leo problem; it is just the spirited living that you like and can perhaps go over-board with.
Your love of spirited life demands that life be free and natural and not tramlined by petty laws and such like. You know that if life is lived properly with the proper order in place, there will be little need to make many laws and petty restrictions. And so, of course, you are one of the less outspoken advocates of politically correct thinking.
Oh, yes, and woe betide anyone who treats you with ill manners - whether your beast is tamed or not. Hence, you tend to enjoy it when you have cultivated good manners of your own, which, especially when that beast is tamed, will come very naturally to you.
